KARACHI: Several workers, including women, fainted in apparent leakage of toxic gas at a factory in Karachi but eyewitnesses tell a different story,
Contradictory accounts surfaced following the incident.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the factory was already haunted and several workers have experienced mysterious incidents in the past as well inside the industrial unit located in Landhi Export Processing Zone of Karachi.
The workers who shifted their unconscious colleagues to Jinnah hospital spoke to SAMAA correspondent and many of them denied any incident of gas leakage.
They said an ‘Aamil; was called in this morning by the factory owners to get rid of suspected ‘Jinns’.
“As the Aamil began reciting different verses, the factory workers gathered at a congested hall, started to feel dizzy. Many of them fainted while others ran out shouting and screaming for help,” a lady factory worker told SAMAA.
Factory workers and rescue teams shifted over a dozen fainted workers, most of them women, to Jinnah hospital where they were stated to be out of danger.
Police reached the factory, which manufactures sport goods for export, and started investigation to determine mysterious circumstances behind the incident.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Landhi Export Processing Zone said that a stampede inside the factory triggered this incident, adding that many women workers fainted owing to suffocation.
