Drone attack sabotaged talks: KP CM

NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said Saturday that drone attacks were carried out whenever the government and Taliban were about to open dialogue.

Talking to this scribe by telephone from Lahore, he said the session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly had been summoned and the government would take the opposition parties into confidence about halting the Nato supply routes.

We will make the final decision on blocking the Nato supplies via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will link the re-opening of the routes to the halt to the drone strikes,” he vowed.

He said the core committee meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed concern over the killing of Hakimullah Mahsud, leader of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who was killed in a drone attack near Miranshah in North Waziristan.

The chief minister said the drone attack took place at a time when talks were about to start between the government and Taliban. He said the attack was aimed at sabotaging the peace process.

Pervez Khattak said the provincial government would give a deadline to the federal government to ensure halt to the drone attacks and hold fruitful dialogue with the militants.

He said the PTI would also move resolutions at the Sindh and Punjab assemblies to seek blockade of Nato supply routes. He said his party wanted to restore peace in the region through talks as it was a prerequisite for development.
