Grenade attack near Karachi Imambargah leaves cop injured




KARACHI: A policeman was injured after a gathering of mourners came under a hand grenade attack in Shadman Town here on late Thursday night,

"It was a hand grenade attack, however, there have been no serious casualties except for a cop who received minor injuries", said Senior Superintendent of Police (Central), Amir Farooqui.

He further added the attackers hurled the grenade from an overhead bridge that landed near the main entrance of Imambargah Zain-ul-Abideen (a Shia mosque located near Nagan Chowrangi) and as a result a policeman deployed there sustained wounds.

Sources said the injured cop was standing alert by an armoured personnel carrier parked outside the Imambargah by the time the attack.

A large contingent of security-men including Rangers and police, equipped with jammers, have cordoned off the area and frisk-and-search operation is underway to clear the area.
