Legendary folk singer Reshma laid to rest in Lahore
LAHORE: Legendary folk singer Reshma was laid to rest amid tears and sobs in Imamia Colony of Lahore today,
A large number of her fans, relatives, singers and others participated in her funeral.
Earlier this morning, she died after a protracted illness at the age of 66 years. She was suffering from throat cancer.
Known as nightingale of desert, Reshma was born in Rajasthan’s Bikaner area to a Banjara (gypsy) family while later migrated to Pakistan in 1947. She belonged to a tribe which had converted to Islam.
She did not receive any formal education and spent much of her childhood singing at the mazars (shrines) of the mystic saints of Sindh. She earned fame from her singing at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalander when she was just twelve years old.
