US fails to control poppy cultivation in Afghanistan


KABUL: US has failed to control poppy cultivation in Afghanistan, as its production further went up during the current year, while a comprehensive report of the United Nations on this alarming situation expected to be released soon, Monday.

Afghan security officials and anti-narcotics experts said that the US has already spent more than $7 billion on the control of poppy cultivation, but the poppy market fast getting a boost with the passage of time, as poppy was cultivated this year on over 0.15 acres of land.

UN anti narcotics panel said that the huge amount obtained from the sale of narcotics was also being used for political purposes taming down the resistance against it.
