Karachi: Terrorists attacked the office of the Awami National Party (ANP) situated in the Quaidabad area, killing two party workers and injuring one.Meanwhile, in separate incidents, three persons were gunned down in the Mominabad and Soldier Bazaar areas in the city.
The attack on the ANP office took place late on Sunday night whan an explosion rocked the Gulshan-e-Buner area of Quaidabad where Afroze Khan, 35, and Ziaullah, 32, were killed while Bakht Kamil was injured. The incident took place at the ANP’s office situated near Iqra Academy in the Quaidabad police limits.
Station House Officer (SHO) Shabbir Ahmed of the Quaidabad police station said that on receipt of information, the police rushed to the spot where they found a man lying dead and others critically wounded.
The police immediately shifted the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and cordoned off the crime scene. Later, Afroze Khan and Ziaullah died during treatment while Bakht Kamil was being treated for injuries.
During the investigation it was learnt that the dead and injured were workers of the ANP and were present at the ward office. Two armed men riding on a motorcycle came by, stopped in front of the office and opened indiscriminate fire on the men and while fleeing lobbed a hand grenade at the office. Due to the explosion, the outer area of the ward office was badly damaged.
The police said that the deceased had received multiple bullet wounds on their upper torso which became the cause of their deaths. The attackers had used 9mm pistols in the attack and the spent bullet shells and explosive material gathered from the scene of the crime were sent to the forensic division of the Sindh Police.
A police official said it was a targeted attack and their target was the ANP workers, and added that it is too early to confirm the involvement of any group in the attack. Later, the workers and leaders of the ANP protested and demanded the arrest of the culprits. A case has been reported by the police and investigations are under way.
Meanwhile, three people were gunned down in separate incidents reported on Sunday night.In the Mominabad area, armed men gunned down Jabbar Lateef, 30, and Farooq Baloch, 35, in Faqeer Colony, Orangi Town. SHO Ahmed Butt of the Mominabad police station said that on Saturday evening two groups residing in Faqeer Colony had engaged in a violent clash after a fight between the area’s children. However, the matter was settled by the police.
He added that late on Sunday night the same groups once again clashed and opened fire upon each other due to which a passerby, Jabbar Lateef and a resident of the area Farooq Baloch, were killed and three others injured.
The police shifted the dead and injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and launched a crackdown in the area for the arrest of the culprits. The deceased had received bullet wounds on their chests which became the cause of their deaths. A case was reported and investigations are under way.
In another incident, Mohammed Tahir, 27, was shot dead in the Soldier Bazaar police limits. SHO Rahim Shah of Soldier Bazaar police station said that information was received that a young man was lying injured outside an internet cafe situated in Soldier Bazaar No-1.
A patrolling mobile went to the scene and shifted the injured to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where Tahir succumbed to his injuries. He added that the police had not found any CNIC from the possession of the deceased, however, they had found his bag containing two cellphones.
The police called various numbers and one person identified Tahir as a resident of Hyderabad who had recently come to Karachi. He further told the police that a few months back Tahir along with his family had shifted to Hyderabad from Surjani Town Karachi and had came to Karachi two days ago to meet some friends. He narrated that Tahir was fond of video games and surfing the internet.
SHO Shah said that the cafe owner told the police that he was present outside the cafe when unidentified armed men on a motorcycle opened fire and killed him and fled. A case was reported and investigations are under way.
