Ulema say no room for killings in Islam

KARACHI: There is no room for massacre in Islam, renowned Ulema have shown consensus upon this point while talking to Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain in Pobo’s popular programme, ‘Aalim Online’.

They noted that instead of following the teachings of the Holy Quran, today’s Muslims were busy in acting upon their own desires and so they were facing acute problems.

Famous Islamic scholar Allama Kokab Noorani Okarvi said, “There is a difference between our words and deeds because we do not correct ourselves and want to criticise others. This is the reason Muslims have become a laughing stock,” Allama Okarvi remarked. He further said, “Instead of taking pride, we feel embarrassed for being Muslims which shows we have slavish mindset.” He said that bringing the Holy Quran while discussing personal issues was tantamount to giving way to confusion. “Before considering the Holy Quran as the law, there is a need to mould the character accordingly,” he opined. Commenting on the recent wave of terror attacks despite the ongoing peace talks, he said that some elements by giving air to terrorism were endorsing the propaganda that Islam spread by the sword, however Islam is a religion of peace and there is no compulsion in it. Responding to the questions of the anchor, former director of Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre University, Dr Fazal Ahmed said that the Holy Prophet (SAW) preached sanctity of humanity and always kept away from bloodshed. He said if the message of Islam was spread through love, the entire world would get a positive message.

He suggested that the respect for the Holy Quran was incumbent on every Muslim.During an online talk with Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, Allama Mirza Yousaf Hussain said that the Holy Prophet (SAW) left behind the Holy Quran and the ‘Ahl-e-Bayt’ as a source of guidance, but the relation with them weakened and the Muslims went astray.

In the programme, Allama Sajid Mir said that the Shariah was being implemented by deviating from it and there was no way for terrorism in Islam.

Dr Amir Liaquat said that intervention in others’ domain gave way to chaos in the society. He stated that ‘Qital’ did not mean to murder people without convincing them or to kill them for imposing one’s own understanding. Extending best wishes on peace talks, he said that on one side there were talks of peace and on the other, there were murders, but despite this, he prayed that the dialogue should reach a logical end and the land which had been prone to terrorism for the past several years should become peaceful.
