JI’s strong reaction to British envoy’s remarks

LAHORE: The Jamaat e Islami (JI) has reacted strongly to the remarks of British High Commissioner Adam Thomson who in a TV interview held that Pakistan army’s statement in response to Munawar Hasan’s was a healthy sign for democracy.

A JI spokesman on Thursday termed British diplomat’s views highly improper and an interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs. The spokesman asked the diplomat if Britain allowed its armed forces to demand an explanation from any political party or issue a political statement directly questioning the political leadership’s policies or stance on different issues. The spokesman said no body had the right to teach norms of democracy to Pakistani political leaderships, nor the foreign diplomats in this country had any right to comment on its political affairs. He said Pakistan’s biggest issue was the increasing foreign interference which had crossed all limits of decency, democracy and international laws and traditions, and that should come to an end.
