Chotu Gang member killed in Jhang encounter

JHANG: The police claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender belonging to the DG Khan’s Chotu Gang and arrested his accomplice.
After a crackdown against the Chotu Gang on the order of the DG Khan RPO, some of its members shifted to another district. On a tip-off, the DG Khan and Jhang police jointly raided the house of Qasim in Pir Abdul Rehman, Ahmadpur Sial, but the outlaws opened fire on them. The police also retaliated. As a result, the Chotu Gang member Ishaq, a proclaimed offender and a relative of Qasim, died on the spot. The police arrested Qasim while Ishaq’s accomplices managed to escape.
ANTI-TETANUS CAMPAIGN: A six-day anti-tetanus campaign will start in the district from October 21 and women ranging 15-45 years will be vaccinated. The campaign will continue till October 26.
This was announced by DCO Maqbool Ahmad during a briefing on Saturday. The DCO said that according to the survey conducted in 2000, 77 children died daily from tetanus and now the death rate had been reduced to six only. The Punjab government has planned to launch a special anti-tetanus campaign to root out the disease. The DCO disclosed that 278 mobile teams and 93 fixed points would provide the service on emergency basis. He urged the school health and nutrition supervisors, National MNCH, National FP&PH and health officials posted at DHQ, THQ, RHCs and BHUs to make the campaign successful.
He said asked the EDO Health, DOHs, DDOHs and other administrative officers to work with commitment and dedication to make the task successful by ensuring their control over their subordinates. The DCO said that during the programme, anti-tetanus teams would visit schools, colleges, District Jail and Women Community Centre besides public places. He said that mobile vaccination teams would visit all union councils and loudspeakers would be used to inform the people about their visit. He said that the Health Department officials had been directed that a vigorous awareness and publicity campaign should be launched for the success of the drive. The DCO appealed to the people to fully benefit from anti-tetanus vaccination being provided by the Health Department to root out the disease. He said that he would inaugurate the drive DHQ Hospital.
