Seven killed as two groups clash in Rawalpindi Muharram procession


RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army and paramilitary Rangers were called in after a clash between two groups left seven people dead and many others injured in the garrison city here on Friday during a Muharram procession,

Angry people turned violent and set many shops on fire in Raja Bazaar.

The clash triggered a stampede in the procession before police intervened and brought the situation under control but only after one of their man got beaten by one of the groups.

According to reports, the clash erupted as a Muharram procession reached Fawara Chowk of the garrison city.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and has sought a report from officials.
