Karachi

The Sindh home department has directed Karachi’s commissioner and five deputy commissioners to provide all details of workers of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), the district municipal committees (DMCs), the water and sewerage board and the department of city wardens within three days.

Confirming the move, Additional Home Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Shah told The News that officials of the Rangers, police and spy

agencies informed in writing that many employees of the KMC and the DMCs as well as city wardens were involved in criminal activities in Karachi, including target killings. The officials demanded complete details of the employees to verify their record, he said.

Shah said the matter was discussed in a meeting on the law and order situation in Karachi and a formal latter was sent to the commissioner and all DCs as well as to other officers concerned by the home department.

Sources in the home department said the law enforcers also provided a list of some employees of these departments, who, according to them, were involved in criminal activities, and demanded departmental action against them.
