Islamabad: The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is taking steps to ensure implement on Environment Policy 2005, which recommends to phase out sulfur from diesel and furnace oil and provide alternate sources of energy. ARY News reported.
It includes provision of piped natural gas, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), solar energy and microhydel power stations, to the local inhabitants to reduce the pressure on natural forest, and to substitute fire-wood in the upland ecosystems.

The
ministry is also initiating projects to promote the use of
ozone friendly technologies and phase out the use of ozone
depleting substances in line with the provisions of the Montreal
Protocol, Chairperson Pakistan Council of Science and Technology (PCST)
Dr Mudasar Asrar told media representatives today.
Dr Mudasar informed that the plan is to promote recycling of agricultural products associated with livestock production and use of livestock sector as an outlet for recycling of appropriate urban waste.
He said that the ministry will introduce adequate animal waste management system in peri urban dairy colonies.
Besides, the ministry will develop cost effective sewage treatment plants and industry specific biotechnological waste-water treatment processes to overcome environmental problems.
Power generation through incineration of solid waste and development of catalytic converters for retrofitting vehicles for minimizing the emission problems is also in consideration.
Ministry will join hands with Ministry of Climate Change to set up cleaner production centers and promote cleaner production techniques and practices.
