Cop killed in Swabi ambush

SWABI: A cop was killed and two others sustained injuries when gunmen fired at the police van in Malikabad village in the limits of Gadoon Ahmadzai Industrial Estate Police Station on Thursday night, official sources said.

The sources said police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Riaz Khan was on a routine patrol when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the van at 11pmnear Malikabad graveyard.

As a result, SHO Riaz Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ziaullah and Head Constable Wisal were injured. They were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar where the head constable succumbed to his injuries.The funeral prayer for the slain cop was offered in Shah Mansoor Police Line which was attended by District Police Officer Sajjad Khan and other officials.
