Consensus unlikely between govt, army on TTP talks: Asma


OKARA: Former President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Asma Jehangir has said it seems that no consensus between army and government exists regarding talks with Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Talking to media persons here at District Bar Association on Friday, she said despite no agreement between the government and the TTP, dialogue is need of the hour and it should be successful. He said true representation of people is inevitable in dialogue process.

The government and army should chalk out a comprehensive plan for elimination of terrorism and establishment of the writ of state in line with the Constitution, she maintained.Asma said it’s time to take right decisions failing which the government would lose credibility among masses.

Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Ramzan Chaudhry also spoke on the occasion. – Online Our correspondent adds: Asma said presently it seemed only the Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were negotiating with the TTP.

She said to accept the constitution or not is Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Aziz’s right but the government and media have been giving him unnecessary importance, as if he was a representative of billions of people. She was here on canvassing campaign for her group’s candidate Muhammad Naeem for Lahore High Court Bar Association elections.
