Unabated gun, bomb attacks end five more lives

Unremitting incidents of violence across the metropolitan city claimed the lives of five more people, including a policeman, on Saturday.
Sub-Inspector Niaz Ahmed was a few yards away from his house when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him in Raees Amrohi Colony, Orangi Town, said Iqbal Market SHO Tasdeeq Waris.
Ahmed was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He had suffered five bullets to the upper torso. He was posted at the Special Branch of the Sindh Police. Investigators said his murder would be probed considering which criminal groups he was working against.
Two hurt in bomb attack
Two Peerabad police officials were injured in a bomb attack at their station, following which Sindh IGP Shahid Nadeem Baloch suspended the longest serving SHO of the Peerabad police over “negligence”.
The attack panicked the people, resulting in rumours that terrorists had barged into the police station to attack the officials. A large contingent of police and Rangers also arrived on the scene.
Baldia Town SP Malik Ahsan Adil said two men on a motorcycle lobbed a bomb from a bridge that landed inside the police station and exploded. Policemen Faisal, 30, and Muhammad Ashfaq, 32, were injured in the attack.
SP Adil said the attack was aimed at spreading fear among the police, but he vowed to continue action against the criminals in the locality.
A few days ago, an IED was hurled inside the Peerabad police station, but the officials survived the attack as the explosive device had failed to explode.
IGP Baloch has ordered immediate suspension of Peerabad SHO Abdul Moeed, and Inspector Fasih-uz-Zaman has been appointed as his replacement.
Rickshaw driver killed
A rickshaw driver was sitting in his vehicle when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him near the 11C bus stop in Azam Basti, Mehmoodabad, said SHO Muhammad Faisal.
Ibrar Khan, 35, was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. He had suffered five bullets to the chest and hand.
Police said the victim hailed from Hazara Division in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was residing in Gali No 8, Mehmoodabad.
Body found
The body of an unidentified man with a bullet wound was found near the Miran Naka bridge, said the Chakiwara police.
He was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi. He had suffered a bullet to the head. Police said the victim was kidnapped and then taken to the said location where he was gunned down.
Two killed in Lyari clash
An ambulance driver of the Chhipa Welfare Association and a woman were killed during the ongoing clash between Lyari-based gangsters, said Acting SSP City Sheraz Nazir.
Lal Muhammad, the 35-year-old Chhipa driver, was in an ambulance in Chakiwara No 2 when a stray bullet hit him in the neck.
The wounded driver was taken to the CHK where he succumbed to his injury. The victim was a resident of Nai Abadi in Baldia Town and is survived by four children.
The Kalakot police said the driver had reached the troubled area after some people were injured in the ongoing clash between two groups in Lyari.
Separately, a 25-year-old woman was killed when a rifle-mounted grenade lobbed by a gangster landed in her house in Shah Baig Lane, Gali No 2, Baghdadi. Naseema Gaddafi is survived by two children.
Encounters
A Lyari-based gangster and two robbers were gunned down in encounters with the law enforcement agencies.
A suspected gangster was killed during a joint action by the police and Rangers near Slaughter House in Baghdadi, Lyari.
SSP Nazir said Shah Mir was associated with the Ghaffar Zikri group, which is supporting the Baba Ladla gang. Mir was involved in various crimes, including attacks on police and other law enforcers, he added.
The law enforcers said they had asked Mir to surrender, but he opened fire on them and was killed when the gunfire was retaliated. His body was taken to the CHK.
An alleged robber was killed in an encounter with the police when they raided his hideout in Labour Square, Landhi.
Police said 32-year-old Siddique Commando alias Lal Khan was involved in robberies, gang rapes and other heinous crimes, and was wanted by various police stations in Malir and Korangi.
A joint team of the Ibrahim Hyderi and Sukhan police raided Commando’s hideout and asked him to surrender, but he opened fire on them and was wounded when the gunfire was retaliated.
He was taken to the JPMC where he succumbed to his injuries. Police seized two hand grenades and a pistol from his possession.
Another alleged robber was killed in an encounter with the Sachal police near Super Highway in Sohrab Goth.
Police said they had received information that a group of robbers was looting people on Super Highway, following which a police party was despatched to arrest them. When the police arrived on the scene, they were met with armed resistance, following which the law enforcers retaliated and killed one of the robbers as his accomplices escaped. The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Shah Kalam Mehsud.
